Christmas Cheese Ball

Dried cranberries, goat cheese, and basil make this simple cheese ball a big hit at any party. The silver lining being that it’s Christmas colors. That was my goal, to make a delicious appetizer that would not only taste great but look amazing at a holiday party.

I’ve made a few cheese ball recipes that have combined traditional cream cheese with goat cheese, so I knew that was going to be the base. But what for the red and green? I’ll admit, I’m a fool for cheese and fruit. I love when a cheese plate comes with a sweet compote or apple slices, I hoard them. Dried cranberries are both sweet, tart, and red, a perfect balance to a rich goat cheese.

Red was easy but what about green? An herb was the obvious choice but which one? I first thought mint, but that’s a little too bitey. Then Italian parsley but it’s a little too earthy. Basil? Basil! Duh! The caprese fool that I am, how could I not instantly go to basil? It was just the right amount of herb, swoon! Roll this beauty in sliced almonds for a perfect finishe and serve with pita chips or your favorite cracker!
